Children & Young People's Plan - Consultation

Consultation guidance for Trafford Children and Young People's Plan 2011-14

Children and Young People's Plan - DRAFT (PDF, 1.87MB)

About This Consultation

The purpose of this consultation is to allow us to receive general feedback on the draft version of our latest Children and Young People's Plan, which will guide our partnership until 2014. Throughout its development the plan has been opened up to consultation from partnership colleagues, adults and children and young people. This final consultation, prior to its formal release in April 2011, will allow us to gather important feedback from the people whose opinions matter the most; children, young people and families in Trafford.

About the Plan

Trafford Children and Young People's Plan is an overarching strategy that will set the top level outcomes and priorities for our Children's Trust Partnership for the next three years. Most importantly, it is a statement of intent for improving outcomes for children, young people and families across the borough, laying out our vision of Trafford as:

"[A]n outstanding place for people to live, learn work and relax where all children and young people feel and are safe from harm, healthy and are receiving an outstanding education preparing them for adult life."

The plan sets out how we can contribute to this vision by identifying key priorities that we believe will make the crucial difference. Underneath each key priority, we have set out a number of further priorities and set out our pledges for future improvements to services.

We have put consultation at the heart of this plan from the very beginning. This is one of many ways we intend to gather your views over the next three years to ensure that we are on the right track.

Translating the Vision into Reality

The plan is just the first step in turning the vision into reality. It will be supported by a number of separate strategies and delivery groups that feed into each key outcome and guide the work and actions of the whole partnership. In order to be certain that progress is being made, each group will address a number of crucial questions:

  • What are the changing needs of our communities?
  • What do we need to do to ensure we can fulfil the pledges we have made?
  • How can we achieve this?
  • How will we measure our level of success?
  • How can we involve communities, families, children and young people in working towards our goals?

All of this will doubtless require considerable cooperation and hard work; but before that we need to ensure that the vision fits the purpose of the huge task ahead of us.

What We Would Like to Hear From You

Your feedback is particularly important to us in helping to shape our vision. In particular, we would like you to consider the following questions as you read the document:

  • Is it clear and concise?
  • Is it easy to understand?
  • Are there any statements that are confusing or unclear in what they mean?
  • Is the structure of the document clear? Does each page follow the one before in a logical sequence?
  • Has anything been excluded that you think should be in the plan? (Please bear in mind this plan should be short and provide an overview of the whole children’s trust partnership; future delivery plans and strategy will address specifics in greater depth)
  • Most importantly, does the vision presented represent the Trafford in which you would like to live in the future?

There are two case studies that are planned for the final document. Unfortunately, due to Data Protection issues, these are not yet cleared for inclusion in the document. These gaps are clearly marked in the consultation document.

As part of our continuing commitment to reducing unnecessary costs this plan has been produced and designed in-house without the use of consultants or any bespoke and specialist computer software and materials. It has been designed to be distributed mainly electronically, via the web, to reduce paper waste and printing costs. A large print version of this consultation document is available on request. Your comments on layout, design and format of the document are of course welcome.

We are working in partnership with Trafford's Youth Cabinet to develop a young person's version of the plan.

To respond to this consultation, please complete the online questionnaire available here, alternatively you can email cypsjcu@trafford.gov.uk or telephone us on 0161 912 1045 to discuss the best way for you to provide your opinion. Please note, the consultation closing date is 4th MARCH 2011.
