Following the death of Victoria Climbie, the Laming Enquiry and Report recommended new ways of working in children's services to support children, young people and families. These new ways of working are known collectively as "Integrated Working".
The key to this way of working is for practitioners to work together to identify needs earlier, and to put in place a programme of services to better meet the child and family's needs.
This will ensure that children and young people get a better start in life, and meet the five Every Child Matters outcomes:
- Be Healthy
- Stay Safe
- Enjoy and Achieve
- Achieve Economic Wellbeing
- Make a Positive Contribution
These new processes and systems include:
ContactPoint
ContactPoint is a new online directory which will provide a quick way to find out who else is working with the same child or young person.
Children's Service Directory
The Children's Service Directory provides details of family support services, play and leisure activities to parents, young people and professionals in Trafford.
Information Sharing
Trafford has developed an Information Sharing Toolkit to help practitioners share information effectively. This toolkit contains documents and guidance which can be used as part of their work with children and young people.
Integrated Working Training Programme
Find out about training available for all practitioners working with children, young people and their families.
Common Assessment Framework
The Common Assessment Framework is a tool to support practitioners in working together and includes a common process and a common form to capture an holistic view of the child's needs.
**ICS is used internally by Social Care (CYPS) staff only.
The Integrated Children's System has been developed to improve outcomes for children defined as being in need, under the Children's Act 1989.
The ICS process gathers complicated and detailed information about Trafford's children and young people and thus shall be stored in a supporting electronic record system. Information shall only be available to practitioners who have a combination of granted consent and where appropriate, the necessary access levels. This system compliments the "Integrated Working" approach.
Further information on this area can be sought from:

Trafford CYPS has created a toolkit to guide practitioners through the process of sharing information.
