Health and Wellbeing Notice Board
Trafford Council, Trafford Healthcare NHS Trust and Trafford PCT are working together on health and wellbeing to provide staff, their family and friends with an enhanced range of opportunities to help them achieve their health and wellbeing aspirations.

Senior management in each of the 3 organisations are sponsoring the partnership and are providing the executive leadership necessary to raise the profile of the wellbeing agenda and this multiagency approach.

To support staff in accessing these opportunities, the communication teams are working together closely to ensure that information is shared with staff in a timely and accessible fashion. This jointly produced monthly staff Health and Wellbeing Notice Board and link to the associated posters, is one of the ways in which information is being shared. This is supplemented by local intranet pages and other communication tools.

Staff are also being encouraged to volunteer to be local 'Health and Wellbeing Champions'. These volunteers receive information directly and support staff awareness and feedback. This is through sharing and displaying the health and wellbeing notice board and posters, and encouraging staff to both participate in activities and also share their experiences and ideas.

If you would like to volunteer to be one of our health and wellbeing champions, then please contact either:

NW PCT Chair and Chief Executives announced
As regional health services continue to implement the government's reform programme NHS North West can now confirm the appointment of the Chairs and Chief Executives who will lead the five primary care clusters across the region.

The appointments are:

The chief executive and chair of the Cumbria PCT cluster will be Sue Page and Mike Taylor.

The chief executive and chair of the Pan Lancashire PCT cluster will be Janet Soo-Chung, who is currently the chief executive of NHS North Lancashire, and Peter Kenyon, who is currently the chair of NHS Central Lancashire.

The chief executive and chair of the Merseyside PCT cluster will be Derek Campbell, who is currently the chief executive of Liverpool PCT, and Gideon Ben-Tovim, who is currently the chair of Liverpool PCT.

The chief executive and chair of the Cheshire PCT cluster will be Kathy Doran, who is currently the chief executive of NHS Wirral, and Kathy Cowell, who is currently the chair of Central & Eastern Cheshire PCT.

The chief executive and chair of the Greater Manchester PCT cluster will be Mike Burrows, who is currently the chief executive of NHS Salford, and Prof. Eileen Fairhurst, who is currently the chair of NHS Salford.

Mike Farrar, chief executive of NHS North West said: "The cluster Chief Executives will provide additional leadership, support and scrutiny for local decisions during a challenging time for the NHS. As well as driving up the quality of patient care and services, the clusters will support the new GP consortia to ensure the NHS spends its money as effectively as possible."

"The leadership in the north west is as such that we had a strong group of candidates from which to choose from however I am delighted that we have appointed five talented leaders and whose experience will help the NHS in the North West to prepare for the major reform programme we face."

ENDS

Note to editors

PCTs are due to be abolished on 31 March 2013. The aim of the clustering is to ensure PCTs continue to be resilient during the transition period, as well as helping to secure the right conditions for the establishment of successful GP consortia, Health and Well Being Boards and future arrangements for public health.
Existing PCT chief executives will remain as the accountable officers until the cluster positions have accountability agreements in place with the SHA, and have revised and agreed PCT Board governance arrangements.

This will be completed by 1st June 2011 at the latest. The cluster chief executives will work alongside existing PCT chief executives until then.

TaMHS Report
TaMHS - successful outcomes to a 2 year project.

The 2 year Targeted Mental Health in Schools (TaMHS) project has been delivered in Trafford as part of the CYPS 'Think Family' approach. The work was initially funded from Government grants with the aim of improving mental health outcomes for children and young people via interventions in schools.

The work, delivered by lead and senior practitioners together with 3 TaMHS practitioners, was supervised and managed by one of the CAMHS Consultant clinical psychologists - Dr John Stancombe. The practitioners worked in 2 secondary and 8 primary schools delivering a range of training and consultation for school staff together group and individual work with children and families. The work with children and families covered such issues as bereavement, school refusal, domestic violence and anxiety.

Qualitative evaluation of this project has been undertaken by the University of Salford. Evaluation of the training provided to school staff showed a positive increase in professionals' knowledge and skills related to emotional health and wellbeing. Schools have also been enabled to earlier identify pupils with emotional health problems and with support, work with these families.

What of the future? The TaMHS practitioners have developed a Resource tool soon to be available for schools. This CD includes the training materials that have already been delivered in the 10 project schools, together with websites for further information and other supporting material.

As from 6 April the senior practitioner and the 3 TaMHS practitioners will be based at Basford house with the CAMHS team to form a Primary Mental Health Team. Their role will include developing links between CAMHS and the area Family Support Teams.

CAMHS will also be utilising the skills of the TaMHS Lead practitioner who will be taking up the new post in the team of Lead Nurse and Nurse prescriber for the newly developed Neurodevelopmental Pathway for children with suspected ADHD or Autism.

Celebration Evening 2011
Trafford CYPS held its annual evening of entertainment and celebration on the 10th March 2011 at the Waterside Robert Bolt Theatre in Sale.

This year we have seen an increase in the number of young people gaining national accreditation awards, Youth Achievement Awards , Arts awards, OCN (Open College Network) and Duke of Edinburgh Awards

Around 120 local young people aged 13-19 in the Borough joined by their Youth Workers, CYPS professionals, teachers' family members and friends to mark their individual achievements in completing various nationally accredited award schemes.

The official awards were presented to the young people by Charlotte Ramsden Joint Director of Children, young people and families and Deborah Brownlee Corporate Director of Children Services.

A select group of Young people were presented with outstanding achievement award by the Youth Worker's attached to their specific projects, community or youth centre who had nominated them for their positive contribution to their project or where they have made significant changes to their personal lives.

Mark Bailey Participation & Senior Children's Rights Manager also announced Trafford's newly elected 2011 members for the UK youth parliament; Chris Pike and Naadhirah Dudha. They will be focusing on address three main areas which include improving services for young people, post 16 opportunities and apprenticeships and combating various forms of bullying.

Guests enjoyed entertainment from young people who are currently attending Gorse Hill studios. This included a performance's from 'the Theatre group Act it Out', street dance groups Aspire and Super Six, also two live music bands Behind Times and Skint all of which are very talented and were well received by the audience.

The Celebration Evening was a great success and CYPS are looking forward to next year's event where we hope to see even more young people receive awards.

Integrated Children's System (ICS)
**ICS is used internally by Social Care (CYPS) staff only.
The Integrated Children's System has been developed to improve outcomes for children defined as being in need, under the Children's Act 1989.
The ICS process gathers complicated and detailed information about Trafford's children and young people and thus shall be stored in a supporting electronic record system.
Information shall only be available to practitioners who have a combination of granted consent and where appropriate, the necessary access levels. This system compliments the "Integrated Working" approach.

Further information on this area can be sought from:

What is Trafford Children and Young People's Service (CYPS)?
The CYPS is a service jointly governed and managed by Trafford Council, Trafford Healthcare NHS Trust and Trafford Primary Care Trust.

Introduction to Integrated Working
Following the death of Victoria Climbie, the Laming Enquiry and Report recommended new ways of working in children's services to support children, young people and families. These new ways of working are known collectively as "Integrated Working".

The key to this way of working is for practitioners to work together to identify needs earlier, and to put in place a programme of services to better meet the child and family's needs.
This will ensure that children and young people get a better start in life, and meet the five Every Child Matters outcomes:

  • Be Healthy
  • Stay Safe
  • Enjoy and Achieve
  • Achieve Economic Wellbeing
  • Make a Positive Contribution

These new processes and systems include:

Single Agency Referral Form (SARF)
Common Assessment Framework (CAF)
Lead Professional
Information Sharing
Integrated Children's System (ICS)
CYPS Options Funding

Relationships Matter
However good a relationship may appear, most couples experience difficulties at some time or other and some relationships break down completely. Relationship problems, separation and divorce can be very painful and upsetting for everyone concerned, so the Department for Children, Schools and Families has asked us to find out about the kind of support and help people might want when things go wrong.

That's why we are inviting people of all ages and in all walks of life to help us with this important study during 2009.

If you can help us please see attached for more information.
