Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day has been held each year since 2004, and Safer Internet Day 2009 is to be marked on 10th February. The day promotes safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially amongst children and young people across the world.

In 2008, over 120 organisations, in 56 countries, took part in the day, and this year is expected to be even bigger.

To mark the day in Trafford, Trafford Safeguarding Children Board is launching its e-Safety Strategy, which will provide the framework for all of the Board's planned activities which are geared towards safeguarding children in a digital world. These activities are to include an audit of e-Safety awareness amongst organisations in Trafford, co-ordinating awareness-raising for children and establishing reporting procedures for e-Safety incidents.

For more information, www.thinkuknow.org is an online resource provided by CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre), and there are online quizzes and games at www.nwlg.org/esafetygames/

Copies of the strategy document or other information on e-Safety can be obtained from Jamie Whyte (jamie.whyte@trafford.gov.uk). The strategy is also available on the Trafford Corporate Intranet. (http://intranet/yourtrafford/CYPS/default.asp)
