HOME FROM HOME

HOME FROM HOME

Would you like to make a real difference to lives of disabled children and their families in Trafford?

The Home from Home scheme needs people like you to spend time with disabled children, have fun and involve them in everyday activities in your home or in the community.

The children are carefully matched with individuals or families who can meet their needs. The child then visits the same family or individual on a regular basis.

Who are the children?

Carers support children aged 0 -18 years of age. The children have autism, learning or physical disabilities and need opportunities to have fun, meet new people, try new activities and gain independence. At the same time, their parents have a break from caring, or time to spend with their other children.

Who can provide short break care?

We need all kinds of people. You may be single, have a partner, be young or older, working, retired or unemployed. We welcome carers from all cultural backgrounds and abilities. You do not need any experience or qualifications, just energy and commitment to support disabled children in your home or out in the community.

How much time will I need to devote?

Home from Home carers support children and young people in their spare time. Children and their families usually need support at weekends, in the evenings and during school holidays.

You can offer as much support as you are able to, but we would ask that you are available at least once a month.

Will I be paid for providing care?

Yes. You will be paid an allowance to cover expenses.

Will I receive support and training?

Yes, full training will be given. You will receive ongoing support from the child's parents and from the Children with Disabilities Team.

Will I have to undergo a background check?

Yes. Criminal records bureau checks and other references are carried out.

Integrated Children's System (ICS)
**ICS is used internally by Social Care (CYPS) staff only The Integrated Children's System has been developed to improve outcomes for children defined as being in need, under the Children's Act 1989. The ICS process gathers complicated and detailed information about Trafford's children and young people and thus shall be stored in a supporting electronic record system. Information shall only be available to practitioners who have a combination of granted consent and where appropriate, the necessary access levels. This system compliments the "Integrated Working" approach.
