CAMHS for children in care

CAMHS for children in care

We are a specialised CAMHS team for Children in Care. CAMHS is short for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. The dedicated CAMHS team for Children and Young People in Care is in recognition of the increased vulnerabilities and difficulties that young people can have following life events that bring them into care.

Children and Young People in Care are at risk of poor emotional well-being and poor mental health, and sometimes their lives can remain complex and complicated for some time.

However, we also know that promoting positive mental health, and helping young people to process and make sense of their life events can build their resilience and improve their life circumstances. Please click here for further information on building resilience.

The aims of our team are:

  1. improving the recognition of distress and psychological problems and enabling psychological perspectives to inform care plans
  2. assisting the development of quality care, including facilitating attachment relationships and improving specialist parenting skills
  3. provision of direct input to children and families

The team consists of:

  • Steph Jamieson, Lead Consultant Clinical Psychologist
  • Dr Ruth Goldwyn, Clinical Psychologist
  • Assistant Psychologist (currently not in post)
  • Julie Webb, Administrative Assistant

We are constantly striving to improve the services we provide and our team plan for 2009-2010 reflects our current priorities.

Integrated Children's System (ICS)
**ICS is used internally by Social Care (CYPS) staff only The Integrated Children's System has been developed to improve outcomes for children defined as being in need, under the Children's Act 1989. The ICS process gathers complicated and detailed information about Trafford's children and young people and thus shall be stored in a supporting electronic record system. Information shall only be available to practitioners who have a combination of granted consent and where appropriate, the necessary access levels. This system compliments the "Integrated Working" approach.
