YOUNG PEOPLE MAKING A POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION: SHOWCASE AND DEBATE 'THE WORDS OF MY GENERATION?'
Trafford Youth Cabinet and Trafford Children and Young People's Service are organising this major event for young people at Sale Waterside on Friday 1 February 2008 from 12 noon until 3.15 p.m. We are asking staff to make the young people they are working with aware of this event and encourage them to attend. The event includes lunch, an 'opinion meters activity', a showcase with performances and presentations from young people, a keynote speaker, debate and the announcement of the results of the elections to the Trafford Youth Cabinet for 2008.
The showcase will be an opportunity for groups of and individual young people to share their experiences and achievements where they feel they have added value to themselves, their family, school or community. It is likely to be something which already exists rather than being a new piece of work. Each contribution will be a 'feature slot' of up to 5 minutes. Young people wishing to participate in the showcase event need to consider the criteria and return a proposal form by no later than Wednesday 19 December 2007. The criteria are that the presentations/performances need to be:
- lively – the audience wants to be entertained;
- informative – the audience wants to know what you have done and how it made a difference, maybe to another individual, maybe to your family or school, maybe to your community or environment;
- interactive – the audience wants to help you get your message across
- time-limited – the other showcase contributors want their chance too so keep it under 5 minute
