"BOUNCE" AIMING TO DEVELOP RESILIENCE!
The Clinical Psychologists in our Children in Care Service have recently completed an 11 week group work project with children in the care. "Bounce" is an innovative project, unique to Trafford, working with children in Key Stage 2 (age 7-11) to help to enhance their resilience and self esteem. Colleagues will be aware that children in care are generally at risk of poor emotional well-being, and that helping them to develop emotional and social skills can help them to become more resilient and "bounce" back from the ups and downs of life. "Bounce" has received positive feedback from the parents, carers, teachers, social workers and most importantly the children who attended. The team has evaluated the effectiveness of the group and are optimistic about the impact it has made. They are looking forward to running more "Bounce" groups in the future. The Clinical Psychology team would like to thank colleagues who helped to transport the children to the group and staff at Sale Children's Centre at Lime Tree Primary School, where Bounce was held. Well done and thanks to Steph Jamieson, Ruth Goldwyn and Lauren McEwan for their hard work in setting up and running such an imaginative project.
EXTRA STATUTORY DAY FIXED FOR 2 JANUARY 2009 (COUNCIL STAFF ONLY)
Each year, all Council staff are allocated two extra statutory days in addition to their annual leave and Bank Holiday entitlement. In recent years these two days have been added to employees' annual leave entitlement and employees have booked these days as leave in the normal way. In view of how New Year 2009 falls, and in line with the Council's employment terms and conditions, the Council has exercised its discretion and taken the decision to designate Friday 2 January 2009 as a 'fixed' statutory day. The majority of staff will, therefore, not be required to work on this date and this day should be deducted from normal annual leave entitlements. However, there will be staff who will be required to work on 2 January 2009 - due to the critical nature of their role in providing or supporting the delivery of 'life and limb' essential services - this date will be treated as a normal working day. Directors with their managers will be identifying which services will be operating and staff working on 2 January 2009, and which staff will be will be taking this as leave. Each member of staff will be notified in writing as to whether they are working or taking leave in the next few weeks.
