HOST ORGANISATION FOR TRAFFORD LINk ANNOUNCED
Voluntary and Community Action Trafford (VCAT) has been announced as the independent organisation that will be responsible for setting up and developing Trafford's Local Involvement Network (LINk) for the next three years. LINks are a national initiative. They will give local people, voluntary and community organisations greater opportunities to say what they think about health and social care services and influence the shape of future services. Having been awarded the contract, VCAT will now start to establish Trafford's local LINk, initially by working with the 'embryonic' LINk and transitional steering group of representatives from the voluntary and community sector and individual members of the public. This announcement follows months of work by the LINks Task and Finish group made up of representatives from the Council, voluntary sector and the local health service. As well as having the task of appointing the host organisation, for which a robust tendering process was established, the group established the 'embryonic' LINk, and the transitional steering group. It will now be VCAT's responsibility to establish how the LINk will be run and what its initial priorities will be, initially working with the 'embryonic' LINk and transitional steering group, which have already made sure previous valuable work and important new issues in the first few months of this contract are not lost or diluted.
Anyone wanting to find out more about the Trafford LINk, including how they can get involved can contact VCAT on 0161 905 2414, e-mail Link@vcatrafford.org or visit their website at www.vcatrafford.org.
SIGNIFICANT STEP FORWARD FOR TRAFFORD HEALTHCARE TRUST
The Trust has taken a significant step forward in terms of operational performance. Despite major changes in management over 2007/8, the Trust has:
- met its financial targets, achieving a surplus of £0.5m. This is the first time in many years that the Trust has recorded a surplus;
- met tougher access targets for patients, including the 18 week referral to treatment time targets; and
- met tougher infection control targets.
Our congratulations and thanks go to all the staff at the Trust, including those working in children's services, for delivering these very important achievements.
