Parent Support Courses
Informal courses to help support parents
Courses To Help Support Parents.
All parents go through stages where they wonder if they are "good enough", or aren't sure how best to handle a particular situation or challenging behaviour from their children, whether that child is two or 14.
Recognising this and the importance to provide as much support and guidance to parents as possible, the council runs two parenting courses - Incredible years for parents of children aged 2-10 and ESCAPE, for parents of 10-14 year olds.
The informal, friendly and welcoming courses, include discussions, activities and information sharing. They are run to help parents better understand the behaviour of children and young people, learn techniques to help them deal with and alter inappropriate behaviour and improve relationships.
Feedback from parents who have already taken part in the courses has been positive, with parents pleased to have had the opportunity to talk to other parents and parenting course facilitators. They feel they've learnt a lot and have found it easy to raise questions regarding their own experiences, without feeling in any way inadequate or silly.
Anyone wanting to find out more about either of these courses should get in touch with Parenting Coordinators Margaret Yusuf or Shirley Procter on 0161 911 8652.
